A1: A Backyard Ultra is an endurance race where participants run a 4.167-mile (6.7-kilometer) loop within a specific time limit. The race continues until only one runner remains able to complete the loop within the given time.
A2: The race duration is determined by the time it takes to complete one loop, which is typically set at 60 minutes. The race continues until there is only one runner left.
A3: Yes, you can walk during the race if needed. The goal is to complete each loop within the time limit, so participants use various strategies, including walking, to conserve energy.
A4: At the beginning of each loop, participants must start the next loop on time. If a runner fails to complete a loop within the allotted time, they are eliminated from the race. The race continues until only one runner remains.
A6: Yes, many runners have support crews to provide food, hydration, and encouragement during the race. Having a support crew can be a significant advantage. 1 crew per registered runner.

A7: Entry fees can vary, so check the specific race details for the event you plan to participate in. Fees often cover race organization, amenities, and aid station supplies.

A8: Most Backyard Ultras have aid stations at the start/finish area where runners can access food, drinks, and medical assistance. However, the loop format means you pass by the aid station frequently. The aid station is situated at the start/finish of the loop located in the runners barn area.
A9: It's essential to bring appropriate running gear, hydration supplies, nutrition, and any personal items you may need during the race. A support crew can help manage your supplies. We will have a Cafe at the start where you can purchase hot drinks, hot food and snacks.
A10: Many Backyard Ultras offer camping options for participants and their support crews. We will allocate spaces for runners (and 1 crew) in the Longbridge Barn. You may bring a single mat/blow up bed and sleeping bag as required.
A12: In general, there are no strict qualifications to enter a Backyard Ultra. However, it's recommended that participants have experience with long-distance running and endurance events.
Yes but with the focus on single car travel to running events we will be charging £10 for car parking that will be donated to a local cancer charity.
Yes. We actively promote using public transport and will be providing a shuttle service from our local train stations (Berwick) and will have certain times during the race where finishers can get a lift back to the station.

As a 'nod' to Laz and The Barkley Marathons, we have included a token system on the 2nd turnaround point. Each token is numbered and kept in a token draw at turnaround point 2. We require all runners to return with a token for the lap that they are on. Any runner returning without this token will be subject to DNF/DSQ rules.
The tokens also form part of your DNF memento.

We call it The Longbridge 100 as the elevation over 24 hours is equivalent to the South Downs Way 100. We also recognise runners that complete 100 miles (24 yards) with a special 100 token.
