Ideal Spring marathon training
Despite the terrible weather, I thoroughly enjoyed this race. A 20 mile race a month before the Spring marathons is ideal and the flatness of this course allowed me to challenge myself to stick to a pace and try to run negative splits. Would recommend to beginners as well as experienced
Great if you are following a Marathon plan. Very friendly.
Would have liked a portaloo on the route.
Great beginners Half Marathon
Great flat course, really well organised. Such lovely Marshall’s who kept us going even though they were stood in the pouring rain! Nice route and great scenery! First time half marathon and it was perfect!
good run on a flat course
Disappointed to find at the end very limited prize giving and no age cat awards
Well organised. A brilliant group of volunteers and marshals supported all runners. Everyone was really friendly and the vibes from other runners was lovely too. Suffered in the last few miles, but eally enjoyed the event. Great preparation for Brighton.
Flat but deceptively tough
This is the second time I've done this race and I've found it hard going both times. Yes, it's flat, but it's really exposed to the elements, and the scenery looks so samey it starts playing tricks on your mind.
On the plus side, it's quite a small event and there's not too much faffing with bags etc. The marshals were great, especially in horrific rain yesterday.
On the minus side, there's not too much support out on the course.
It's a good training run if you've got a spring marathon, but I wouldn't do it again otherwise. It would also be nice to have some more inside areas - it all felt pretty cramped yesterday with everyone trying to escape from the rain.
Would be great for a PB
Pan flat course, if you wanted to chase for a PB, other than the very start, which is busy as you would expect, it is a very open and level course with plenty of space to pass. Scenery is a bit repetitive but might have been worsened by the gloomy clouds and drizzle but can't blame that on the race and organisers!
Marshalls were all giving encouragement and doing a great job and a good way to prep for later Spring Marathons.
This is a tough course - more on the mind than the distance but in a way that's good.
Obviously, bigger/better changing areas and more warmth would help when you are cold at the end!
Poor value for money
£30 for a half marathon with no toilets on the route, not enough toilets at the start resulting in a race delay, entered fairly late, our names weren’t even down on the registration list. Zero value for money
Lovely race
This is a lovely race with fantastic marshals along the course. However it is a tough race as the finish seems to get further away with all the twisty roads!
Hassle free, well organised event
A big thank you to all the volunteers and particularly the marshals and water station staff who had to bear the brunt of the conditions yesterday!!
A great route for your first half marathon
Great run
The finish line needs to be better signposted for those who are first timers..
Good but boring in places
You could start earlier, especially when the weather conditions aren’t great, rather than waiting on the start line. Or have a rolling start from 9am. Having all abilities starting at varying times would be a really good race incentive and lets you go when you are ready rather than waiting around.
You also could do with more toilets, or publicise the men’s urinals more to help with the queue.
Overall it is a good solid training run though
Flat, not exciting but straightforward!
I’ve done this event a few times now and really enjoy it, but I know some find the scenery (or lack of) a bit of a challenge as there’s not much to distract you from the actual running! The out and back format is good as it means you are passing other runners a lot of the way, plus the earlier start for runners who expected to take longer seemed to have been a success. One major issue is the complete absence of any toilets en route, and a shortage at the start. I think for a run of this length it is a real omission to provide no facilities at all - what are people supposed to do if they get caught short 10 miles away from the race HQ? A couple of portaloos along the route would make a huge difference.
Flat terrain (literally & figuratively)
There are too few Portaloos at this race. I think this is my third review where I’ve mentioned this. Race started 10 mins late as people were still in the queue for the toilets. Under normal circumstances a 10 min delay wouldn’t be unduly bothersome but in early March, in today’s rain, people were starting to get quite cold as many (like me) had stripped down to running vests and shorts in readiness for the race start.
Race proceeded without issue. Glad that there were the 3/6 water stations. Sadly the rain meant that the number of supporters on the route were quite few.
Really well-organised, fast, flat race
Great for beginners and PB-chasers alike.
Great run for marathon training
Didn’t like the finish, final few metres on very wet muddy grass. Also could have been better at the finish. A half cup of water & Jaffa cake is a bit poor. Surely you can stretch to a bottle of water & bag of peanuts/crisps or chocolate bar.
Although the weather was a bit horrible, it suited me.
I want to praise Wendy, the half marathon sweeper. Who was encouraging and gave me space. Lovely lady .
A flat half
A good half marathon- well organised. A quiet event though and not a lot of support from locals. But great running atmosphere from all the runners.
