Next Race: 25/01/2025 + 1 other
Ashbourne Leisure Centre, Ashbourne, Derbyshire, DE6 1DR.
Enjoyed it very much. The atmosphere was good, toilets at the start were a bonus and the tea/coffee van was excellent.
The closed gate shortly after the start was a BIG problem, but when my husband ran on Sunday, it was open, so that was a lesson learnt quickly! I thought the first water station was too soon - could have done with being a couple of kilometres later.
A good event to target to get the racing year off to a start
Generally good organisation and friendly event staff. Couldn't believe how good the weather was for the time of year. Just a couple of points for consideration:
1. The gates near the start of the course were a clear obstacle and it is a shame that there could not have been some successful negotiation with whoever had control to get the padlocks removed. The 'chicane' was so close to that start that the bottleneck was a real issue for runners.
2. I have been to parkruns where the run director has had a mobile pa system and a microphone. The use of a megaphone was not adequate on Saturday and I would have thought that an organisation such as Nice Work could invest in a decent mobile pa. I know it is annoying when runners talk over the race briefing, but some runners towards the rear of the pack were not even aware that the race briefing had taken place. I was mid pack and could only just hear. The use of a pa system and perhaps placing it half way along the pack rather than at the front would be far more effective and ensure all runners heard the information.
3. I felt that the first water stop was a little early and the gap to the next was therefore a bit long. I know that the logistics of getting water to a place is an issue and that running the 10k and half marathon adds to the problem but may be worth considering in future.
All in all a good event with cheerful and friendly event staff, Thank you.
Phenomenal event, great organisation, lovely course
Absolutely loved it, so well organised, the marshalls were first class, the team from Nice Work were great and helpful, before the event was simple, just a really friendly, really well run event and one I’ll repeat for sure.
Thanks a million for your support and organising one of the most memorable events ever.
Small, friendly with good facilities.
Great event.
Not one for Trail events but the opportunity for a double header was tempting. Everything was great, I just prefer city locations for events. In no way disparaging to the organizers or these events.
A flat, scenic, relaxed half marathon.
I thought gels would be provided from what was written in the pre race briefing (when it recommended sticking to your own brand). Marshalls were very friendly
Friendly and fast with great scenery
Overall excellent. One minor criticism; the race briefing could only be heard by those at the front.
Fast course
Gates need to be fully opened to stop bottle neck or a stage starts on abilities
Perfect first race for me
Definitely back next time
Lovely organisation
Great feed stations
My first half marathon and I loved it
Great location & love the Jaffa cakes
Discover I was age category winner & last age category finisher, but although I was doing photos with friends etc for some time, heard nothing about prizes presentation. Husband also a winner! Will we still get our prizes as we only discovered it when we got home?!
.
Enjoyed the half marathon run. Great countryside and enjoyable experience
Beautiful, easy terrain, enjoyable 2nd half.
Start in waves by expected finish times would've really helped
Fantastic event
A great time, runners were inspirational and cheered us all along. Marshals were fantastic, made us push us all that bit harder.
Thank you for a great day.
Great atmosphere and excellent course and marshalls
Why are the results for the half marathon in km?...I understand for the 10k....thats my only criticism Nice work....Great race though.
Well organised event, good facilities.
Only thing I would add is that for the 10k run, road shoes are best, but reading all the information sent before we thought it was suggesting trail shoes. My road shoes would have been more comfortable on my ankles. A note to recommend road shoes would have helped us.
Fabulous event - would recommend
There needs to be another water station as only 2 on the course at 3.8km, 10.5km and 17.3km isn’t enough. Also only 100ml of water per cup meaning I needed multiple cups per stop. I know I could have carried my own water but find drinking from a Camelbak uncomfortable
Friendly, well organised and superb route
Really enjoyed my 60th birthday “treat”. As usual, all was well organised, friendly and lovely atmosphere. Thanks
