Colchester 10k

Colchester Garrison Track, Circular Rd N, Colchester CO2 7SZ

This is Colchester's Premier Running Event and you're invited!
Join The Rotary Club of Colchester for a race-day extravaganza and, in doing so, raise valuable funds for some fantastic charities.

This is a Partner race
This means that we are working with a host Partner Organisation and providing timing and/or race management service for their event.

Event Overview:
This incredible race is back for 2024 and we can't wait to see you on the start line. The Colchester 10k enjoys some wonderful support from local athletic and running clubs together with those joining us from park run or looking for a fun day out, hitting the tarmac with friends and family. You'll be delighted by the community and race-day vibes on the start line, the cheery faces and encouragement from our volunteer marshals and our wonderful race team. And, by signing up, you'll be helping to raise valuable funds for some super charities (more on that later!). The race is organised by “Rotary in Colchester” – a partnership of the town’s 3 Rotary Service Clubs. It runs on the second Sunday in May and offers a warm welcome to new runners and old friends making this the race you'll want to keep coming back to year after year.

A snapshot...
The Race is run under the auspices of UKA, with an appointed adjudicator and starter and certificated distance, enabling personal times to be submitted. A qualified first aid team, with specialist vehicles is in attendance. There is ample parking available and the focal point is the Garrison sports stadium (CO2 7PU) where changing, toilet and refreshment facilities are available, as well as an unsupervised bag drop. Further information can be found in the race FAQ's at...

Course Details:
As always, the race starts and finishes at Abbeyfields, a large open area, just south of the town centre. The race starts promptly at 10:30 on the level Circular Road North and continues on pavements and tracks around the garrison area. Most of the course is level, with some gentle slopes near the finish. There are two intermediate water stations. Road crossings are properly marshalled by volunteers or Council staff. The finish is on the running track.

Flat, fast, scenic and accurately measured, the course takes runners along the roads and footpaths around Colchester, and is great for posting fast times either for a personal best or as part of a Club Championship. Starting just outside the Garrison Running track the race is run around a circular route finishing with a final sprint around the oval towards the finishing line in front of the Pegasus Pavillion and the amassed spectators.

The course was officially measured in March 2017 with a few small amendments to the route to aid the running flow; please refer to the Colchester 10k website for these course updates. The race is fully marshalled, with km markers and water stations only a small portion of the route is run along the road, with the remainder along footpaths.

Introducing, our charities:
Colchester Foodbank... The foodbank was there when we really needed it, it was an absolute lifeline.
Hearing these words was a call to action the Rotary Clubs of Colchester could not pass up and we are proud to have Colchester Foodbank as our main beneficiary of the Colchester10K this year. As their website states “We don’t think anyone in our community should have to face going hungry. That’s why we provide three days’ nutritionally balanced emergency food and support to local people who are referred to us in crisis. Over a third of those we help are children.
As part of a nationwide network of foodbanks, supported by The Trussell Trust they are working to combat poverty and hunger across the UK.
Please support them by donating money, food and equally as important, your time as a volunteer.
ABF Soldiers Charity...  As a garrison town Colchester has a long history with our Armed Forces, and we lend support to our soldiers wherever we can.  The ABF is one of the  major beneficiaries from the Colchester10k. The Soldiers’ Charity began as the Army Benevolent Fund in 1944. They are very proud of their 70 year history and are determined to make the most of the opportunities ahead. Today, the conflicts may be different, but the pressures on soldiers remain. The Army is bearing the strain of the current conflicts. Hundreds of soldiers have been killed in Afghanistan and Iraq with many more injured both mentally and physically. ABF Soliders Charity give lifetime support to serving and retired soldiers and their families. They risk so much, but for them, it’s just doing their job. In return, the Soldiers Charity provides financial assistance when there is real need.

Your hosts:
Rotary in Colchester is comprised of three local clubs (Colchester, Colchester Centurion & Colchester Forum). Together the three club’s volunteers organise and run this event. This is a community event that we use to raise money for many local charities. All three clubs carry out events to raise money or support for community, youth and international projects.
